NYU Blasts Autodesk With Suit Over Animation Patents

Law360, New York (July 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Computer animation technology has sparked a court battle between New York University and software maker Autodesk, with NYU alleging that Autodesk knowingly infringed several of its patents for animation software.

The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges that Autodesk, NYU asserts two patents that animation technology.

The first patent, issued in 2000, describes a method for synthesizing human-like gestures and actions, while the second patent, issued in 2001, covers a method for creating computer generated animated characters....
