Betting Co. Urges EU To Enforce 5-Year-Old Ruling

Law360 (November 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Five years after the top European Court liberalized the gambling industry by recognizing operators' rights to work in any of the 27 member states, a private sports betting company has accused the European Commission of failing to enforce the ruling.

The European Court of Justice asserted on Nov. 6, 2003, and again in March 2007, that gambling operators organized in one country have the right to provide services across Europe. The ruling stemmed from a criminal action originally filed in Italy against agents for Stanleybet International...
