Liberal Groups Ask FCC To Block Charter-Time Warner Merger

Law360, Washington (February 18, 2016, 5:30 PM EST) -- A coalition of mostly liberal-leaning nonprofits petitioned the FCC Thursday to reject the proposed $55 billion Charter Communications-Time Warner Cable merger, saying the transaction would hurt competition and result in higher prices for cable.

The groups — including Public Knowledge, Daily Kos and Free Press — gathered 300,000 signatures for petitions opposing the massive merger of Charter Communications Inc., Time Warner Cable Inc. and Bright House Networks, according to a statement Thursday from Free Press. The move would create a near-duopoly in the high-speed Internet market, with New Charter — as the new parent company would be known — and Comcast Corp....
