Calif. Judge Admonished For Underhanded Contempt Probe
Law360, New York (March 23, 2016, 5:54 PM EDT) -- A Los Angeles Superior Court judge was publicly admonished Wednesday after the California Commission on Judicial Performance found he violated a defense attorney’s procedural rights by excluding him from hearings regarding his own alleged contempt.
The commission found that superior court judge Patrick Connolly abused his authority and embroiled a criminal defense attorney by setting a series of post-trial hearings regarding the attorney’s statements during trial without citing him for contempt or issuing an order to show cause regarding contempt.
