Gov't Urges High Court To Hear Immigrant Bond Case

Law360, New York (March 30, 2016, 11:22 PM EDT) -- The federal government has told the U.S. Supreme Court that the Ninth Circuit was wrong in holding that immigrants detained during deportation proceedings need to be given bond hearings if their detainment lasts for six months, and urged the high court to take up its appeal.

In its March 25 petition, the U.S. Department of Justice strongly urged the justices to review an October ruling from the Ninth Circuit, which held that certain immigrants were entitled to automatic bond hearings following six months of detention....
