Early Ruling Denies Bid To Stop Newspaper Deal

Law360, New York (July 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Dealing an initial blow to a San Francisco businessman’s crusade against the consolidation of the publishing industry, a federal judge gave out a preliminary ruling Thursday that rejected a bid for temporary restraining order to halt McClatchy Co. from selling three Bay Area newspapers.

Clinton Reilly, a prominent real estate investor, filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California earlier this month to attempt to stop MediaNews Group Inc. from buying the San Jose Mercury News, Monterey Herald and Contra...
