FedEx To Cough Up $27M In Calif. Driver Case

Law360, New York (December 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- FedEx Corp.'s ground unit has agreed to pay about $27 million to settle a lawsuit accusing it of misclassifying about 200 California drivers as independent contractors.

In the deal finished Friday, approximately $14.5 million will go to the drivers who were allegedly misclassified, plaintiffs' attorney Lynn Rossman Faris said.

FedEx agreed to pay about $12.5 million in attorneys' fees and costs, she said. However, FedEx disputed that figure Monday, saying that $19 million of the settlement would go toward plaintiffs' attorneys’ fees, interest and court costs....
