ALPS Says Atty Not Covered For Bruce Lee Movie Deal Suit

By Andrew Strickler (May 10, 2016, 10:16 PM EDT) -- BigLaw's malpractice insurance mutual ALPS filed suit Tuesday claiming it has no duty to defend a Virginia entertainment lawyer targeted over a soured deal for the rights to a movie about martial arts star Bruce Lee.

The Attorney Liability Protection Society, officially known as ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Co., is seeking a declaration from a Virginia federal court that it isn't on the hook to back attorney Bennett Fidlow of Entertainment Law Inc. in a malpractice suit brought by a Chinese production company because the attorney's claim falls outside the coverage period.
