Second Federal Trial Over Vioxx Begins

Law360 (August 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In the opening of the second federal trial over Vioxx, the attorney representing a former FBI agent told a jury Monday that Vioxx was behind his client’s heart attack and that drug maker Merck & Co. Inc. chose to disregard red flags concerning the safety of its lucrative arthritis medication.

The attorney for Gerald Barnett, 62, said in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana that Barnett exercised regularly and minded his diet.
