Turf Maker Accuses Rival Of Trampling On Patent

Law360, Chicago (May 25, 2016, 9:13 PM EDT) -- Synthetic turf maker FieldTurf USA Inc. hit a rival company with a lawsuit in Illinois federal court Wednesday, saying the design it uses for National Football League practice and game fields infringes FieldTurf's patent.

Montreal-based FieldTurf said UBU Sports Inc. has been installing turf using its patented flexible design at fields used by the Chicago Bears, the Cincinnati Bengals, the New York Giants and many other teams. UBU has been answering teams' requests for proposals and winning bids using the patented design, despite repeated warnings from FieldTurf, the suit claims.
