Tencent Grabs 'Clash Of Clans' Maker In $8.6B Deal
Law360, New York (June 21, 2016, 1:05 PM EDT) -- Tencent Holdings Ltd. and its affiliates will continue expanding the Chinese internet giant's reach in the global gaming sphere with the $8.6 billion purchase of the Finnish company behind the hugely popular "Clash of Clans" mobile game from SoftBank Corp. on Tuesday.
The deal comes nearly three years after SoftBank bought a majority stake in Supercell Oy for $1.5 billion. SoftBank increased its ownership stake in the mobile game company last year to about 75 percent for an undisclosed price. Supercell and its four top-grossing games are played by more than 100 million people every day, according to a Tuesday statement....
