Contentious Pension Bill Clears Another Hurdle

Law360 (August 4, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Taking a page from the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate has passed a sweeping overhaul of U.S. pension laws, shooting the bill straight to President Bush’s desk for approval.

The Senate overwhelmingly endorsed the Pension Reform Act of 2006 on Thursday, with 93 members voting in favor of the measure before breaking for a month-long summer recess.

The passage came only days after the U.S. House of Representatives approved the measure by a vote of 279-131, marking the end of months of tense negotiations....
