CareFirst Beats Another Data Breach Class Action

Law360, Los Angeles (August 10, 2016, 8:48 PM EDT) -- CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield fended off another putative class action arising from a 2014 data breach to the health insurer's member database when a D.C. federal judge Wednesday dismissed the complaint, saying the alleged injury suffered by named policyholders failed to establish standing to sue.

The dismissal without prejudice of a second amended complaint by Chantal Attias and six other plaintiffs on behalf of the 1.1 million policyholders impacted by the data breach comes just three months after a Maryland federal judge tossed a related putative class action for much the same reason.
