US To Appeal Ruling Keeping Madoff Out Of Jail

Law360 (January 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Federal prosecutors will appeal yesterday's ruling by a federal magistrate judge not to jail disgraced fund manager Bernard L. Madoff for allegedly violating the terms of his parole.

In a letter sent Monday, prosecutors from the U.S. attorney's office in New York asked U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Ellis of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to stay Monday's order permitting Madoff to remain free on bail so the government can appeal the ruling to the federal district court.
