Designer's Royalties Suit Over Beats Headphones Revived

Law360, Los Angeles (September 19, 2016, 7:03 PM EDT) -- A California appellate court on Monday revived a headphone designer's royalties suit against Beats Electronics LLC and its founders, saying that there are material facts in dispute over whether a 2007 settlement required payments on the first Beats headphone model or subsequent ones embodying the same design.

The unpublished decision by the California Court of Appeal in the Second Appellate District reverses a trial judge's grant of summary judgment to Beats Electronics and its developers, Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine and Robert Brunner, in the long-standing royalties dispute over the popular Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.
