Takata Faulty Seat Belt Class Action Tossed

Law360, New York (January 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a boost to Takata Corp., a California superior court judge has thrown out a class action accusing the Japanese company of manufacturing seat belt buckles that were not fully tested in accordance with federal standards and could have caused injury.

Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis of the Los Angeles County Superior Court said in a tentative ruling Jan. 16 that the plaintiffs had failed to prove by a preponderance of evidence that Takata engaged in “unlawful, unfair or fraudulent conduct” concerning testing of its TK-52 seat belt...
