Honeywell Slams Trust's Referee Pick In Asbestos Claim Fight

Law360, New York (September 21, 2016, 1:32 PM EDT) -- Honeywell International Inc. on Tuesday objected to a bid by an asbestos settlement trust committee in Delaware federal bankruptcy court to appoint a former judge to referee a battle over releasing the names of asbestos claimants from companies supplied by a brake manufacturer, saying it has concerns over impartiality.

Honeywell told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Gross that the North American Refractories Company Asbestos Personal Injury Settlement Trust Advisory Committee should not appoint former U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Judith K. Fitzgerald to help determine whether the company can examine court records identifying thousands of claimants seeking coverage for asbestos exposure.
