Total SA Seeks Exit From Traders' Market Manipulation Suit

By Adam Lidgett (September 26, 2016, 1:22 PM EDT) -- French energy giant Total SA and a British subsidiary sought to duck class allegations that commodities traders were harmed by a Total U.S. unit's natural gas price manipulation, arguing Friday that the two European businesses cannot be brought into the New York federal court case.

The commodities traders had sued Total Gas & Power North America Inc. in December 2015 for allegedly violating the Commodity Exchange Act with a scheme to alter natural gas prices in the Southwest by attempting to manipulate prices at four major trading hubs over a three-year period.
