Monsanto Roundup Cancer Suits Centralized In Calif.
Law360, New York (October 4, 2016, 4:30 PM EDT) -- Thirty-seven lawsuits filed nationwide alleging that Monsanto Co.'s Roundup-brand weed killer causes cancer were centralized on Monday by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation in California's Northern District, the site of two of the earliest-filed and most procedurally advanced actions, the panel said.
Monsanto is facing claims in 21 districts, which all allege that Roundup, a widely used herbicide containing the chemical glyphosate, can cause non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and that Monsanto failed to warn consumers and regulators about the alleged risks. Several of those cases have already made it past the motion to dismiss phase.
