Judge Bumps Lord Black's Bail By $1M

Law360, New York (August 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After weeks of bickering between prosecutors and former media mogul Conrad Black’s defense team, a U.S. federal judge Thursday raised Black's bond by $1 million in cash to $21 million.

U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve, who will oversee Black's upcoming trial on charges he stole millions from the Hollinger International Inc. media empire, which he headed, gave him until Aug. 25 to post the bond.

The government and Black’s defense lawyers had been trading insults in court documents prior to Thursday’s hearing in the U.S....
