Yahoo Urges Gov't To Declassify Email Scan Order, If It Exists

Law360, New York (October 21, 2016, 1:32 PM EDT) -- Yahoo’s general counsel told the U.S. director of national intelligence on Wednesday that the company is hobbled in its response to reports that it has scanned users’ email, and urged intelligence authorities to clarify matters for the public.

Yahoo general counsel Ron Bell told DNI James Clapper that the company has been unable to respond to reports that a classified order was connected to scanning of user email because of legal restrictions surrounding the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, including a restriction on confirming such requests....
