New Bill Challenges Airline Alliance Immunity

Law360 (February 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Rep. James L. Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has introduced a bill calling for tougher antitrust scrutiny of international alliances between airlines.

The bill, introduced Tuesday, would require the U.S. Government Accountability Office to conduct a study of the current legal requirements and policies the Department of Transportation uses to decide whether to grant airlines antitrust immunity for the purpose of operating joint international flights.
