Chesapeake's Eagle Ford Royalty Cases Transferred To MDL

Law360, Dallas (December 1, 2016, 2:13 PM EST) -- The Texas Multidistrict Litigation Panel has ordered the pretrial consolidation of claims by 110 royalty owners in the Eagle Ford shale who say they were underpaid by Chesapeake Energy Corp.

Rejecting an argument from the plaintiffs that a mandatory venue provision in some of their contracts should defeat Chesapeake’s jurisdictional bid, the MDL panel said in a brief order Nov. 29 that a group of existing cases and all future tag-along cases would be consolidated for pretrial proceedings.
