Kinder Morgan Unit, DOJ Settle Pipeline Spill Suit

Law360, New York (February 11, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Plantation Pipeline Co. has agreed to fork over $725,000 in order to settle allegations by federal prosecutors that the company violated the Clean Water Act by discharging thousands of gallons of oil into federal waters in three states.

The U.S. Department of Justice lodged a consent decree Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, resolving allegations that Plantation, which Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP operates and partially owns, released oil and gas into creeks and tributaries in Virginia, Georgia...
