By Shannon Henson (February 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The American Antitrust Institute has urged federal regulators to take a comprehensive look at the proposed $68 billion merger between drug companies Pfizer Inc. and Wyeth Inc., saying the marriage would threaten the future competitiveness and creativity of the pharmaceutical industry.
AAI presented the commissioners of the Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder with a paper Thursday that calls attention to possible effects of the merger on innovation in the drug industry and to macroeconomic issues that are not typically the focus of antitrust analyses.
