Justices Could Deal Blow To East Texas Patent Docket

Law360, New York (December 15, 2016, 9:12 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to decide whether to impose new limits on where patent lawsuits can be filed, taking up a case that could end up barring most patent owners from filing cases in the patent hotbed of the Eastern District of Texas, and pushing more suits into Delaware.

The high court on Wednesday granted a petition from TC Heartland LLC, a liquid sweetener company that was sued for patent infringement in 2014 by Kraft Foods Group Brands LLC. TC Heartland appealed after its attempts to move the case to Indiana, where it is based, were denied.
