Funai Abusing Digital TV Patent: Vizio Suit

Law360 (February 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- High-definition television company Vizio Inc. has sued Japanese rival Funai Electronics Co. Ltd. for allegedly abusing a patent in order to monopolize the digital TV market, escalating an ongoing intellectual property battle between the two companies.

In a complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Vizio alleges that Funai unlawfully acquired U.S. Patent Number 6,115,074 from Thomson Licensing SA, and has discriminated against Vizio in the licensing and enforcement of that patent.
