Vioxx User Wins $51 Million Award In Court

Law360 (August 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Merck & Co. Inc., manufacturer of the former blockbuster drug Vioxx, is feeling the ache after Thursday, when two high-profile cases over the drug in New Jersey and Louisiana went the way of the plaintiffs.

In New Jersey, Judge Carol Higbee threw out a favorable verdict for Merck and granted a new trial to postal worker Frederick Humeston, who alleged that Vioxx caused him to have a heart attack.
