Class OK'd In Race Bias Suit V. NJ Fire Department

Law360, New York (February 19, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge has certified a class of more than 800 would-be firefighters in a suit brought by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People against a northern New Jersey fire department in an effort to do away with a residency requirement for job applicants that the group claims leads to discrimination.
