Local Climate Laws Create Hodgepodge For Cos.

Law360 (February 20, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Numerous states and even some municipalities are taking steps to limit greenhouse gas emissions, leaving a patchwork quilt of climate laws that could be difficult and expensive for companies to navigate.

Though the issue has been debated in Congress, there is currently no mandatory federal program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And thus far, only the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative – a coalition of 10 northeastern states that set up a cap-and-trade system for fossil-fuel-fired power plants – has gone into effect at the state level....
