Pa. Federal Jury Awards Couple $14.5M Over Birth Injury

Peter Kang (January 30, 2017, 5:27 PM EST) -- A Pennsylvania federal jury on Friday awarded a couple $14.5 million following a medical malpractice trial, finding that an obstetrician provided negligent medical care that caused a baby's brain damage, cerebral palsy and other permanent ailments.
After a two-week trial and four hours of deliberations, the jury determined that the doctor, Thomas A. Carnevale, and Clearfield Hospital were negligent in the delivery of the infant son of couple Justin Brinkley and Nicole Welker. The couple claimed that Carnevale and two Clearfield nurses improperly administered the drug Pitocin to Welker during labor which caused her son to suffer permanent neurological disabilities....
