PTAB Denies CBM Review For Alert System Patent

Law360, New York (February 28, 2017, 6:38 PM EST) -- The Patent Trial and Appeal Board refused Monday to institute America Invents Act covered business method review of a TeleSign Corp. patent covering an electronic alert system, the latest example of a patent the board decided was not eligible for review under the program.

The board found that Twilio Inc., a communications software provider, had not shown that its California rival's patent qualified for CBM review, which the AIA states was designed for patents that are related to financial products or services.
