2 Firms Get $1.1M In Attys' Fees In Transgender Medicaid Suit

By Abraham Moussako (March 13, 2017, 3:24 PM EDT) -- Two public interest law firms have been granted more than $1.1 million in attorneys' fees for their work in a class action alleging New York state illegally refused to pay for certain medical treatments for transgender individuals under Medicaid. 

The Legal Aid Society and the Sylvia Rivera Law Project on Thursday were granted $963,391.44 and $194,354, respectively, in fees, while a private firm that also litigated the case, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, was asked to submit revised fees and cost calculations due to the court's modifications to the fee scale and disputes over whether certain attorneys at the firm should...
