Troopers Hit NJ With Age Discrimination Suit

Law360, New York (March 5, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Over 120 New Jersey State Police troopers have launched a class action against the state, claiming a retirement policy that forces them to leave the job at age 55 violates age discrimination laws.

The state troopers allege that age is not a bona fide occupational quality. Instead, they say that forced retirement should be based on physical standards.

They are suing the State of New Jersey, Office of the Attorney General, Division of State Police and Division of Pensions in the Superior Court of New Jersey...
