Garvey Schubert Barer Petitions FCC To Nix Main Studio Rule

Law360, Washington (April 20, 2017, 9:57 PM EDT) -- Law firm Garvey Schubert Barer petitioned the Federal Communications Commission on Thursday to repeal its rule requiring radio and television broadcaster licensees to maintain a primary studio within their local communities, claiming it is outdated and costly.

The petition came from the firm’s media, telecom and technology group, which represents large public broadcasters and small local broadcasters. It argued that modernization of the Main Studio Rule is overdue, as it has placed a “regulatory and economic burden” on broadcasters, particularly small stations.
