Adversary Proceedings Continue To Drop: Report

Law360, New York (March 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Adversary bankruptcy proceedings dropped 8 percent last year – marking the fifth consecutive year of lower filings, a report released Tuesday says.

The 2008 annual report of the director for the administrative office of the U.S. courts said that the number of adversary proceedings dropped to 45,870 in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2008.

The greatest numerical reductions in filings of adversary proceedings occurred in the Southern District of New York, where filings dropped by 1,038 cases, or about 47 percent. The decrease, the report...
