Justices Asked To Review Undocumented Pupils' College Aid

Law360, New York (June 5, 2017, 3:07 PM EDT) -- Conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review a decision allowing the University of California to provide $27.1 million in state funds for tuition and other financial aid to undocumented immigrants, saying the decision undermines federal immigration law.

Judicial Watch Inc. argued to the justices in its May 23 petition for certiorari, filed on behalf of California state resident Earl De Vries, that the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, in Los Angeles essentially rewrote federal law by upholding education benefits provided by the UC Board of Regents to undocumented immigrants.
