Judge Fast-Tracks California Newspaper Case

Law360 (August 29, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has agreed to speed up the discovery and trial proceedings of an antitrust case brought over McClatchy Co.’s recent sale of two newspapers to MediaNews Group Inc.

The lawsuit, filed last month by prominent San Francisco real estate investor and former mayoral candidate Clint Reilly, accused MediaNews of creating a media monopoly by buying the San Jose Mercury News and the Contra Costa Times for $736.8 million.
