Philly DA Can't Nix Bribery Charges In Advance Of Trial

Law360, Philadelphia (June 14, 2017, 1:22 PM EDT) -- Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams was unable to shake bribery charges in advance of a federal trial starting next week, as a Pennsylvania federal judge ruled Tuesday that prosecutors’ allegations of favors performed for his benefactors qualified as “official acts.”

U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond rejected Williams’ arguments that the charges against him did not hold up in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2016 ruling in the McDonnell case, which limited the definition of official acts.
