ITC To Investigate Samsung In Wireless Patent Case

Law360 (March 25, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission has agreed to investigate a complaint alleging Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s BlackJack smartphone infringes patents belonging to patent-holding company Saxon Innovations LLC.

The commission said Wednesday that it had opened an investigation to determine whether Korea-based Samsung and two U.S. subsidiaries violated Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, which prohibits imports that infringe U.S. patents.

Tyler, Texas-based Saxon filed a complaint Feb. 23 accusing the electronics maker of infringing U.S. Patent Numbers 5,235,635; 5,530,597; and 5,608,873. The complaint seeks...
