Texas Jury Convicts Ex-Mayor, City Attorney For Corruption

Law360, New York (June 26, 2017, 7:20 PM EDT) -- A Texas city’s former mayor and city attorney were convicted by a federal jury Monday for their involvement in a kickback and bribery scheme that prosecutors say “decimated city coffers.”

Crystal City’s former Mayor Ricardo Lopez, 40, and city attorney William James Jonas III, 54, were found guilty on multiple corruption charges, some of which carry up to a 20-year prison sentence each, according to an announcement from the U.S. Department of Justice.
