Sen. Urges Mattis To Honor Citizenship For Service Contracts

Law360, Washington (July 6, 2017, 8:20 PM EDT) -- Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., on Thursday urged Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to reject proposed changes to a military recruitment program that could result in the deportation of some 1,000 foreign-born recruits.

Warner, in a letter to the defense secretary, indicated he could initiate legislative action to prevent the military from enacting plans to cancel enlistment contracts for 1,800 participants in the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest program, which offers expedited naturalization for foreign-born enlistees with highly valued language and medical skills.
