Post-Whole Woman’s Health, Women’s Health Still Matters

Law360, New York (July 7, 2017, 10:12 AM EDT) -- A year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the state of Texas’ omnibus abortion law, HB 2, in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt. Recently, Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, wrote a piece in Law360 praising the decision and condemning “sham” legislation. But much of the legislation concerning abortion clinics seeks to promote women’s health and safety and to demonstrate the state’s interest in protecting life in the womb — interests the Supreme Court has resoundingly upheld.
