Judge Denies Class In Countrywide Katrina Spat

Law360 (March 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has declined to grant class certification in a lawsuit alleging that Countrywide Financial Corp. forced those who lost property in Hurricane Katrina to buy insurance for the nonexistent structures from its affiliate company.

Judge Halil Suleyman Ozerden of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi denied certification in an order Friday, saying the plaintiff, Joann Blades, couldn't show that common issues predominated over any issues affecting only individual class members.
