Map Project Plots Out Protected Land For Developers

Law360 (April 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Natural Resources Defense Council and the National Audobon Society have launched online maps of 13 Western states, combining information on legal land protections and wildlife habitats in an effort to help developers determine whether proposed renewable energy project sites would likely provoke a fight with conservationists.

The project, funded in part by Google.org Geo Challenge Grants, uses the Internet giant's online map software, Google Earth, to show where lawmakers have restricted land use and where critical habitats for protected species live across 860 million acres,...
