$8M Settlement In UPS Workers' Suit Gets Initial OK

Law360, New York (April 6, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has approved an $8 million settlement between United Parcel Service Inc. and around 38,000 current and former UPS employees in California who accused the company of failing to provide meal and rest periods to part-time loaders and of not paying timely final wages to terminated employees.

Judge Dean D. Pregerson of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on Friday signed off on an order conditionally certifying two subclasses and preliminarily approving the settlement, finding the agreement to be “fair,...
