DOT Plans To Let Continental Join Star Alliance

Law360 (April 7, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Continental Airlines Inc., which is currently part of global airline alliance SkyTeam, has won preliminary approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to take part in a rival alliance that receives antitrust immunity and collaborates on pricing and on coordinating certain routes.

The DOT on Tuesday cleared the way for Continental to become a member of the Star Alliance, which already includes UAL Corp.’s United Airlines, Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Air Canada Corp.
