Comcast To Pay $16M To Resolve File-Sharing MDL

Law360 (April 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Comcast Corp. has agreed to pay $16 million to settle multidistrict litigation accusing the cable provider of deliberately blocking customers from using peer-to-peer file-sharing programs despite advertising unfettered Internet access.

The proposed settlement, filed Tuesday, comes just a few months after the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation agreed to transfer the six putative class actions to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in December.

In exchange for the settlement fund, the plaintiffs have agreed to release Comcast and its local subsidiaries...
