Senate Approves Trump Pick For DOD Deputy Secretary

By Michael Macagnone (October 17, 2017, 7:01 PM EDT) -- The Senate approved President Donald Trump's pick for a top civilian policy official at the U.S. Department of Defense on Tuesday as the administration continues to struggle to get its appointees through Congress.

Tuesday's 79-17 vote to approve David Joel Trachtenberg as the principle deputy secretary of defense for policy follows months of delay on his and other administration nominees to the DOD and across the government. Trachtenberg, who is the president and CEO of Shortwaver Consulting LLC, will help head the Pentagon's policy arm as it deals with strategic partnerships, cybersecurity and other issues.
