Wash. Close To OK'ing $12B CenturyTel-Embarq Deal

Law360, New York (April 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Washington state authorities have joined a settlement that would require communications companies CenturyTel Inc. and Embarq Corp. to ensure certain protections for consumers before their $11.6 billion merger receives regulatory approval from the state.

The public counsel section of the Washington State Attorney General's Office said Wednesday it had joined a multiparty settlement recommending the state Utility and Transportation Commission approve the merger if certain conditions are met, including a temporary ban on rate increases.
